Ants
Trails along counters and baseboards usually lead back to a colony outside. Fire ants and carpenter ants need more than a spray.
Main risk
Nuisance
Signs to look for
Lines of ants between a food source and a crack, window or outlet.
Small piles of soil or wood shavings near baseboards (carpenter ants).
Mounds in the lawn that swarm when disturbed (fire ants).
Why it matters
Most ants are a nuisance, but fire ants sting and carpenter ants hollow out damp wood. Spraying the trail you can see only kills foragers; the colony keeps sending more.
How to keep them out
Store food in sealed containers and wipe up sugary spills straight away.
Trim shrubs and branches so they don’t touch the house.
Seal gaps around windows, pipes and cables.
How we treat them
We identify the species first, then use slow-acting baits that foragers carry back to the colony, plus a perimeter treatment outside. Most homes are clear within two weeks.
